Thank Amber for this one:
May. 25th, 2006 12:19 amSo you say the national media is biased against you, Mr. Harper?
...ARE YOU A FUCKING MORON?
(That's a rhetorical question. I know he is.)
Let's just take up that old US mantra of "oh, the liberal media is out to get me!" It's worked amazingly well for them, after all.
Reality has a well-known liberal bias, doesn't it, Mr. Harper?
He's trying to have his staff "select" which reporters get to ask him questions. Mmm, shades of Jeff Gannon. Good for the reporters for walking out.
Harper has said that he will deal with the local media instead...
"Basically, what he's saying is the regional media can be trusted to be compliant. They will find that insulting," said Chris Dornan, head of Carleton University's journalism school.
"Just as the national press corps will find insulting the suggestion that they're all paid-up Liberal hacks.
"He's going out of his way to make enemies - and that's not a good sign."
CBC version of the story (not different, just more... ours): Harper says he's finished with Ottawa press corps

Date: 2006-05-25 05:57 am (UTC)Harper has groused publicly about an anti-Conservative bias in the media before - but not since becoming prime minister.
Ironically, senior Liberal officials earlier this year complained of an anti-Liberal bias in the national media.
In the dying days of the last election campaign, Paul Martin's staff grumbled that reporters were out to get them and were working to elect Harper.
Okay, it's not like people don't have biases - even newspeople (maybe, especially newspeople, even), but maybe if they stopped just saying the media is out to get them, and instead, thought about why the media might want to get them (ie: they're doing something BAD), stuff could get fixed, and everything would be fine (or, as fine as it can be when it's a situation involving politics).
Grrr.
And, selecting reporters? Seriously? Are we becoming the US, because if we are, I'm gonna throw a major fit of some kind while I can still do so without getting arrested...
sigh.

They've been making some good policy decisions overall, but they'd have to have a collective party IQ of -eleventy billion to not do things right now to get people on "their side". Just give it a year and watch.
I hate how dumb the public is.

Re: <3!
Date: 2006-05-25 03:38 pm (UTC)Stephen Colbert at the White House Correspondents Dinner, lambasting the media and the President. ;) It's long, but the quote is only about five minutes in.
"I know there's some polls out there saying that this man [the President] has a 32% approval rating. But guys like us, we don't pay attention to the polls. We know that polls are just a collection of statistics that reflect what people are thinking in 'reality'. And reality has a well-known liberal bias."
