Well, I looked at my user info and decided it was time for an update. So, here goes.

My name is Alex. I graduated from the University of Waterloo; I have a major in English (Rhetoric and Professional Writing) and minor in Psychology, which translates into "I want to be a writer and will actually be a secretary for most of my life." I then took an extra year to be in Humber's Television Writing & Producing program, which was hilarious. I worked for a couple of years in an awful job, then went back to school (Yes. A third time.) for massage therapy.

I don't actually like to think about politics or religion (blood pressure!), but I believe they're important (so I still do so). I'm Canadian. I don't mind higher taxes in favor of better education and health care. I'm the daughter of a small business owner and an elementary school principal, so I've heard both sides of the conservative/liberal debate. Usually I vote NDP.

I agree with the tenets of feminism, but not with the way some people choose to support them. I don't think that the sex trade or pornography is inherently damaging to women; I think that it may be used that way sometimes. In fact, I don't think sexism is inherent to most things; if it were, it would be useless trying to fight it.

I'm a soft atheist. I don't support Pascal's Wager, and I don't think most thinking people would, either. (If God does exist, then believing in Him because you're afraid of what happens if you don't and he does exist probably won't fly.) I also tend not to believe in the supernatural, but my mother sometimes scares me. That said, I have nothing against faith; I just don't have any.

I like books, and I try to read often. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. I always read the new Tanya Huff, Terry Pratchett, and Neil Gaiman books. I also read Harry Potter. Anything else is gravy. I tend to prefer sf and fantasy. I absolutely loathe Margaret Atwood. Shakespeare has my eternal love, but someone should tell educators that we don't need to read Chaucer in Middle English without translation. (;P)

I watch very minimal TV any more. I used to be into various fandoms; not so much, any more. I still have my favorite pairings, but I don't read much fanfic, nor do I write it (much). I do, however, write original-world fic based on roleplaying games.

I love roleplaying. I currently play in a Warhammer 40K (ish) game. I also still obsess over an Aberrant game that ended years ago, because it was that good, and a Vampire: the Requiem tabletop game, ditto.

I want to write, but in the paraphrased words of Terry Pratchett: "Too many people want to have written." I have had four erotic short stories published (yay!) and am working on more.

And now, I leave you with a Jon Stewart quote:

"So how do you know what is the right path to choose to get the result that you desire? And the honest answer is this. You won’t. And accepting that greatly eases the anxiety of your life experience."
