(Okay, it's not that bad. But it's still pretty bad, in that tomorrow today [technically] is the 23rd and the idea of venturing out of my house makes me want to cross myself and hiss wildly into the void...)

I miscounted the number of people I needed to make baskets for. So not only am I working with variable numbers of items, meaning I have to figure out who gets what, I also need to figure out what I can crib from some people so as to give a variety to everyone and not look like oops, I forgot to include someone in my count.

Also I am out of cellophane paper >_< The rolls from the dollar store (barely) cover two baskets worth of stuff, so I'm going to need about five more.

DO NOT WANT TO GO SHOPPING TOMORROW

HAET ALL THE THINGS
alexmegami: (Default)
It took me hours to think of this whole thing, just so you know.

Okay, so I'm going to start this note with a big-ass warning: I have no money. In fact, I am waiting for money to come in so that I can immediately lose it on January 3rd. So I probably won't be contributing to anyone's list unless it involves local people and baking/cooking (and you're providing the ingredients ;).

THAT SAID.

"The idea is pretty simple. You post a wishlist of ten things. Doesn't matter what size or how expensive they are; the point is that they're each something that you really, truly want. Then encourage your friends to do the same.

Step two is to read your friends' posts (your friends did post, right?) and see if there are any wishes that you feel inspired to fulfill. There's no obligation to do so; however, sometimes you might be surprised at what your friends want that you can provide. Maybe your friend wants some new clothes and you've got a bunch that you don't wear anymore. Maybe you're broke but your friend just needs someone to come cook them a good dinner and let them have a night off. The point isn't to put people out, it's to give everyone a chance to be somebody's holiday elf. If someone gives you something on your list, cross it off."

Things I want!

1. Musicals. I don't really care if it's a CD, a DVD, whatever; I have an addiction and it needs more cowbell more Broadway. Things I already have/have seen and therefore don't need: Joseph, Phantom, Avenue Q, Les Mis, We Will Rock You, Jersey Boys, Mamma Mia, The Sound of Music. The King and I (there are others I'm sure I'm forgetting, ask if you're not sure). Things I am especially wanting: Jekyll and Hyde, Camelot, other Rodgers and Hammerstein stuff, Gilbert and Sullivan stuff.

2. Art. I'm running an epic-level D&D game, and I'd like to have someone with talent draw the cast, or even chibis of the major NPCs would be seriously wicked-awesome. Or any of my characters, really, it's been a very long time since anyone's drawn for me.

3. The Eldritch Sky poster, or really anything from this website. Well... maybe not the Feegles.

4. Spa day. I can now get massages pretty much whenever I like, but either a professional massage or just, like... mani/pedis don't really work (I'm not allowed to wear nail polish), but SOMETHING like that. Hand massages. Lots of them. All the time.

5. Money, ha ha? That one's mostly for family.

6. Gift cards to clothing stores! (Pat's mom has offered to take me shopping, since she knows clothes and I do not.)

7. Good Christmas-food-gift recipes. Since I'm baking/canning/whatevering for Christmas gifts this year, if you have an awesome cookie that is foolproof and keeps well, tell me now.

8. Fate in EchoBazaar. That would be super-keen. I don't normally like supplying games with hard-earned money, but it's just so damn AWESOME. I want to play the special storylets!

9. BPAL is always a fun way to spend some time playing. :) Just make sure it's not something on my trading-away list. If you want a list of specific stuff I'd like to try out, you can always message me.

10. Ideas for short stories to write and places to submit them to. I can't ALWAYS write for Jen. ;)

I'm staying at work late (as usual, but kind of purposelessly today until a fax comes in). So, here, a holiday wishlist meme.

Step One

Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it. Once a wish has been granted, it will be crossed off my list.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

The List

1. Fanart. I know most of y'all don't have much idea about my characters and stuff as of late, but I do occasionally still post stuff on my DeviantArt account. Right now I'm playing modern-day Nadja, D&D Danielle (who has a couple of faces; ask me!), Thorn, a half-elf barbarian, and a Log Cabin (that's a lie; to be a Log Cabin Republican, he'd have to not be so far in the closet "he's in NAAAAAAAARNIA", thank you Meagan) Republican as played by Steve Buscemi. And I will always love and treasure Az fanart especially with D'or in I have this thing okay?.

2. Singing lessons. Bonus points if you can find them in Bramptonia, because I sure as hell can't. I used to have a range, you guys. Okay, so I was never going to be a pop star or opera diva like some of you ;), but I've forgotten how to breathe properly and my range is now less than two octaves. It is kind of pathetic.

3. ...a new car.

Note: in between writing #2 and #3, I was in a car accident where I was rear-ended into another car. The other two cars took minimal damage; my car is probably a write-off. Merry Christmas! And it wasn't even snowing. :P *sigh* Also now my neck really hurts. *sulk*

4. XBox points card and/or Gold membership. Honestly I don't play many games, but I'd like to compete in Rock Band and I'd like to download Portal.

5. Baked goods of most fashions. I have a sweet tooth. It is probably about to fall out of my head.

6. Massages! Professional or otherwise. Not until I get the all-clear from the doctor, but I like massages.

7. A maid for a day. The apartment is awful and Patrick and I are not keeping up. Must also be able to iron and not flee screaming from Patrick.

8. Books! I need the new Pratchett; I like urban fantasy and fantasy-fantasy, though generally I prefer quasi-historical fantasy (meaning light on the elves and such; more like Kushiel's Dart or ASOIAF). I also like vampires. A lot.

9. God, I don't even know. Cool things.

10. Inspiration and/or interestingness, things which I am sorely lacking. Also time (n.b.: not for fighting).

Yeah, so I asked you all for yours (TWO people have told me. TWO.) and never gave you mine. :P So here it is, largely ripped from my birthday wishlist:

Christmas wishlist under the cut! )

We're only a little over a month until Christmas. Less than that for some birthdays. If there's something you want, tell me! I might not get it, but at least it will be a starting point.

PS [livejournal.com profile] safti, have you got a list of what BPAL you have or what BPAL you want somewhere? :) I've got an idea of what you like (...OCD cataloging of the last few BPAL posts you've made notwithstanding), but I don't want to double up on things you have...
alexmegami: (Default)
I'm not going to detail all my awesome gifts, but I will tell you which ones were the cherries on top (and they even came last, today!) -

My ThinkGeek shirts.

Shroedinger's Cat is Dead/Shroedinger's Cat is Not Dead

< geek > < /geek >

The GAP-esque sweater with "GEEK" instead of "GAP" on the logo

And one other that is on back order but I don't know which one. I'm hoping this one or "I'm blogging this". But EXCITEMENT! for whatever it is! YAY~

Mom was looking at the catalog that my aunt and uncle also sent along and wants this shirt.

And I get to see Joyee and Steven tomorrow, and then potluck on Friday, and then I pretty much have to settle down and do schoolwork ZOMG.

...what does a production manager do, again?

...I'm kidding. Mostly.

And that supposed Heroes script will probably only get half-done. *sigh*

Pat got a job.

Pat got a job where he's basically an ST. For money.

Pat, for the record? Is a jerk, and I want his job.

(EDIT: 'cause people have asked, ST = person whot runs roleplaying games. AKA Dungeon Master/DM, Game Master/GM, Storyteller, etc.)

In other news, my parents got me a WICKED-ASS PHONE. No longer do I have a brick, but instead a classy Sony Ericsson W810i.

It has a gig of space for music, pictures, and video. (It has a CAMERA!) It has a USB cable. It has friggin' headphones.

FFVI battle music is my ring tone.

It's the best phone EVER.

THE RULES

STEP ONE

1. Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Harry icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

2. If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

3. Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ or link to this post so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO

1. Surf around your friends list (or friends' friends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

2. If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--do it.

Amber, YOU ARE TEH BEST FOREVER AND EVER. <3

Also, no wonder it took you a year - it's huuuuuuuge!

(For the record, Amber made me a Slytherin scarf. It's huuuuuuuge. And warm. And snuggly! And the bestest thing ever. :D)

You know who I hate more than anyone else in the world?

People who say, "Oh, I got your Christmas gift! It's in the back seat!" WITH THE FULL KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU FUCKING HATE ANTICIPATION.

AND THEN GUILT YOU WHEN YOU STEAL THE GIFT FROM WHERE THEY HID IT IN THE CLOSET.

(It's still in the bag, and no, I haven't looked at it, but Patrick is laying the guilt trip on so thick that I may have to beat him to death with the damn thing.)

I would be so happy if people would just say that they hadn't gotten anything for me yet, or, I don't know, not shop until the 24th.

ANTICIPATION IS THE DEVIL.
