And, just to prove that I don't only rant about American fundies and Catholics, here's the Anglican Church's administrative council asking American and Canadian churches to leave for authorizing same-sex marriages and condoning a homosexual priest.

Part of me goes, "Well, it is their religion..." and part of me gnashes her teeth in rage. And part of me goes, hey wait, African Anglican missionaries want to allow polygamous relationships of their converts to remain OK, which is completely against North American morality, and nothing was said about it... (Yes, I know that the OT supports polygyny. Apparently the NT does as well, just not for bishops.)

In other news, Mercury, Venus and Saturn will be visible in the night sky from Friday to Monday. Just so, you know, not everything I put here news-wise is of THE ANGRY!!!

You know, I didn't express this well before, but... I kinda can deal with allowing polygamy in Africa, due to what happens if the women are "rejected" -- they get completely shunned/cast-out by society. It's not like it's the 524th wife's fault if the husband suddenly converts... yet she gets more flak if it happens.

But you would, at least, think they'd be a little less... anal retentive when the shoe's on the other foot.

I don't mind the polygamy either, it's the disregard for the mores of other cultures (though I suppose polygamy is a bit more widespread and accepted there than homosexuality is here). Also, a little bitter cynical part of me says (based on the second article) "but I guess we wasted that on the divorce issue".

I got a chuckle out of this quote, from the article about the planets:

"16th-century astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, who theorized correctly that the sun was the center of the universe"

Yeah... If your Universe consists entirely of our Solar System. It kind of did back in Copernicus' day, but you'd think they'd make it accurate to today's standards for the article...
