[livejournal.com profile] safti! You said I didn't owe you anything, and you lied. LIEEEED.

*ahem*

I love you <3

BPAL reviews!

Eclipse
All the glory, warmth and majesty of the sun -- darkened. A delicious blend of bitter almond, vanilla, frankincense and heliotrope, with a drop of cinnamon.

[livejournal.com profile] lootsfoz sweetly sent me an imp of Eclipse. It is deliciously amazing. In the bottle, it is primarily almond and vanilla. However, that "drop" of cinnamon? Intensely takes over everything when it is on my skin. It is definitely NOM-worthy, although left too long everything else drops out from underneath the cinnamon. I get no frankincense or heliotrope at all out of it. Unfortunately, Patrick dislikes it. 7/10.

Schrodinger's Cat
A paradoxical scent experiment! - tangerine, sugared lime, pink grapefruit, oakmoss, lavender, zdravetz, and chocolate peppermint.

No cats were mistreated during the formulation of this paradox, or in the process of creating this perfume.

This one is from [livejournal.com profile] safti. They can say what they like about the notes. This is straight-up Pine Sol. I am sorely vexed! I have a shirt to wear with it and everything! But no. Pine Sol. I hoped it would mature on my skin nicely. ...Pine Sol.

Sorely vexed. 2/10.

Hymn to Proserpine
The darkening amber of faith’s sunset, deepened by the dark fruits of Proserpine.

Another one from [livejournal.com profile] safti, this one sits nicely as a warm scent (amber smells like heat on my skin), but there isn't much else to it, sadly. 4/10.

Sanctus
The Sanctus are considered by some pious vampires to be the saints of their kind, and from what we have gleaned, they are very likely the stuff of myth. These vampires are paragons that possess impossible, phenomenal powers that defy known physics, including the ability to shift shape, turn into a gaseous form, and command other vampires through will alone. The mythological Sanctus are venerated by some, but we have no evidence whatsoever that they truly exist.

Diabolically otherworldly: golden osmanthus, lily of the valley, celestial musk, and frankincense.

This is a scent from [livejournal.com profile] safti, because she knows and loves me. *G* The scent itself, however... It's hard to say which of the notes is the problem, but I alternately quite like its crystal-clear scent and then get a raging headache from it. I have a suspicion that it's the lily of the valley. I plan to layer this, maybe with Lyonesse, when I do my Dragon Age scent blends (for Leliana, of course). 3/10 on its own, though.

Ave Maria Gratia Plena
A pale, delicate, truly angelic blend. A scent created to emulate Adonis' halo of beauty: fragile, distant, and radiant. Rosewood with Sicilian lemon peel, red Mysore sandalwood, pale musks, sweet mountain sage and a dusting of lily, night-blooming jasmine and orris.

From [livejournal.com profile] safti. This scent is, as one might expect, fairly feminine. I like it; but it's not exactly... me? :D; The jasmine (I think) has a tendency to take over and keeps it from becoming too grandma-soap, like a lot of other florals do, but the tradeoff is a slight tea-like smell. 4/10.

Himerus
The God of Sexual Desire, Longing and Yearning; an attendant of Eros and Aphrodite. A passion-rousing blend of juniper, sandalwood, rosewood, red musk, orchid, bergamot and lilac.

From [livejournal.com profile] safti. On me, this is a very cologne-like scent, very masculine (which would make some amount of sense, since he's a male god and all. :P) I have a feeling this would be deliciously inviting on someone else, but it's a little too clear-cut male, if that makes sense, for my taste. 4/10.

And then, the one that makes up for all the middling reviews...

Kali
Kali, the Black One, is the fearless Goddess of Destruction, Creation, Energy [in her Shakti aspect] and Dissolution. Also named Kaliratri [Black Night] and Kalikamata [Black Earth-Mother], she is the fiercest aspect of Devi, the supreme mother goddess. Kali is a protector Goddess, the destroyer of evil spirits and guardian of the faithful. She, along with her consort Shiva, represent the unending cycle of death and birth, sexual union, creation and destruction. Kali annihilates ignorance, maintains the natural order of the world, and blesses those who strive for spiritual awareness and knowledge of true holiness with infinite tenderness and motherly love. The constant, unending Work of Creation is called the "The Play of Kali". This perfume is a blend of the sacred blooms of cassia, hibiscus, musk rose, Himalayan wild tulip, lotus and osmanthus swirled with offertory dark chocolate, red wine, tobacco, balsam and honey.

Okay, this scent? Is fucking AMAZING. When it's in the bottle, I mostly get the tobacco, but none of that comes out on my skin. There, it starts out with a full-blown flower garden (see: cassia, hibiscus, tulip, lotus, and osmanthus) BUT with NONE of the granny-floral I get with floral scents. It's like it is grounded entirely by something else. Then, over the course of maybe an hour or two, it mutates deliciously into the chocolate/wine/balsam/honey mixture (not too heavy on the wine, but all the others are present). It's like I am wearing TWO gorgeous scents. This is right up there with Hetairae. 9.5/10.

I feel like I am missing one >_< Should have done these reviews earlier! I'll have to look through my box...
