Terry Pratchett Diagnosed With Rare, Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease

I take it back about life looking up. Fucking hell! *smashes things*

Thankfully it's been caught VERY early, so it's not like (as he says) he's dead yet, but... Alzheimer's is a fucking terrible way to live, especially in the later stages. And especially for it to happen to Pratchett is... miserable.

Yeah, I heard about this pretty much the day it was announced; a friend of mine follows the website, and...yeah. :/ I'm reading a Pratchett novel myself right now (Witches Abroad; I'm re-reading) and it really is sad that he's going to end up in that state.

But, as stated, at least it was caught early, and I think Pratchett would know better than most that all people end up at the end of their roads eventually. At least this way, he's got a chance to plan ahead for it, and start tying up the loose ends. That's more than most people can ask for.

Yeah. Especially after seeing both of my maternal grandparents going to Alzheimer's... Of the ostensibly non-painful ways to go (physically, anyway), I think it's THE single worst way to die. And especially, as my mom and I were saying, for someone so witty and good with words.

And that's true, but even planning for it may mean he's got everything ready for 5 years from now, and is still physically around but not mentally so in ten. :/ Just, eugh.
