Glenn Feron's Art of Retouching

He has forty some-odd pictures of models, with the retouched versions - and then, if you roll over, the untouched versions.

Some of them, it's a very dramatic difference, but all of them have the same features - colors brightened, shadows lessened. There's also no small amount of changing breast, stomach, and butt sizes. (In one really dramatic case, I think Halle Berry is wearing a strapless dress in the mouseover, which is replaced by boobs.)

The weirdest to see, I think, is the facial change - getting rid of shadows and smoothing out skin almost necessitates that cheekbones disappear. Seeing the difference really highlights how unnatural these touched up photographs are. The other big one is the eyes - how they're made to seem wider, how colors change.

Funny enough, for two of my favorites, I prefer the untouched versions.

Nothing like a boost to your self-esteem first thing in the morning. Untouched, they look almost human.

I like moving the mouse over the photo and then back again over and over. Ass goes up, ass goes down. Ass goes up, ass goes down.

Yeah, no kidding. They don't have that bizzare inner glow that they seem to get...

Rounded (but not TOO rounded) faces are youthful, therefore attractive. Or some crap like that.

It's not even that he's rounding them out - the actual facial shape doesn't change that much. It's that he's taking out the shadows from the cheeks, basically making the skin 100% smooth and unshadowed. It's really weird when you realize that it isn't physically possible to look like that, period.

Personally I like the moved foot, the turned picture, and the removed faucett. Those were some of the best pictures, because the touching up seemed so random! Well there were other things, but still... I mean, the foot was moved. Why?

But, it was pretty cool.

I don't remember the moved foot one. I imagine the faucet was replaced because they didn't want it mucking up the picture (or it was giving massive glare), but they still wanted it to look like a normal sink.

I'm guessing that the foot move thing was to give the picture more symmetry. Make it more pleasing to the eye, and all.
