Don't read if you don't want to know the unguessed ones!
1. "I always say perseverance is nine-tenths of any art--not that it's much help to be nine-tenths an artist, of course."
(If you can't get it from that: "There are no happy endings because nothing ends.")
I love this movie. Everyone knows I love this movie, I think. I'm surprised it was one of the later-guessed ones. Why? I'm not sure, but it's got that perfect blend of humor and happiness and bittersweetness. I like that it doesn't give you a pat happy ending. I chose the first quote because it kind of sums up how I feel right now, and the second because... well, I like it.
2. "The video arcade is down the street. Here we just sell small rectangular objects. They're called books. They require a little effort on your part, and make no bee-bee-bee-bee-beeps. On your way, please."
Best line about books ever. When I'm a cantankerous old shop owner, I'll pull that one out on some kid and see if they get it. *grin* This is also one of my favorite movies - I love Noah Hathaway.
3. "Why do we need language?"
"To communicate..."
"Nooo! To woo women!"
Also a really hilarious quote from a very sad movie. A lot of my movies, I'm realizing, are about stories or literature in some way. Beyond, you know, BEING stories.
4. "What the hell kind of name is that? It's like some sort of superhero or something."
"What makes you think I'm not?"
I wonder if he really was.
I don't usually go in for mindfuck movies, but I guess if you think of this as a romantic tragedy/comedy with a lot of mindfuck, it almost fits. Almost.
Anyway, I like this movie because it is insane, and often wild, but doesn't treat any of its subject matter easily, even when it's being absurd or funny.
5. "Look, we can't do this 24 hours a day, seven days a week."
"Why not?"
Another in my romantic comedy folder (it's not that much of a comedy, actually), but a romantic movie I can relate to, at least. I like that it doesn't demonize either of them as they are in the beginning and celebrates how they are at the end.
6. "...happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, when one only remembers to turn on the light."
I chose my favorite of the three here, and mostly went with a quotethat wouldn't be picked up RIGHT away, because "You and your bloody chicken" is hilarious but obvious.
7. "Who scores the highest?"
"Asian chicks. Middle class Asian chicks that watch less than one hour of television a day."
(or: "You know, a lot of people would think these questions are difficult... not me."
"No?"
"No. These questions all have answers.")
I like this movie because it's funny. That's really my only reason, beyond 'Scarlet Johanson is hot'. Also, Leonardo Nam is my idol.
8. "You, Freddy, what do you like to do?"
"I dunno. Burn stuff?"
Again in my comedy folder! Mwahaha. I guess the music geek in me just thrills. Also, Freddy is awesome.
9. "I am exhausted from living up to your expectations."
And back to the 80's... I think I love this because of the PENIS PANTS.
Oh, I'm supposed to call them the 'package' pants or something...
Whatever. DAVID BOWIE'S PENIS.
10. "Of course you are. And I'm coming with you."
Chose that line because it's sweet. So sweet! This was my favorite of this series of movies, too.
11. "I see we're making our visits a weekly ritual."
"Only so we can have these moments together. Should I, uh, hit the lights?"
"Oh, very clever, kangaroo boy."
Chosen because Heath Ledger makes me horny in my pants. Also, the singing and dancing scene! Damnit, why doesn't MY life ever work like a teen comedy...?
12. "To trudge: the slow weary walk of a man that has nothing left in his life but the impulse to simply solider on."
"Uhhh... were you robbed?"
"[laughs] Funny really, yes, but at the same time, a huge, resounding no. It's more of an involuntary vow of poverty, really."
(Or, alternatively, "Pain, lots of pain."
And, because it's the last one and this scene was hilarious:
Wat: "Say something about her breasts."
Roland: "Yeah, you miss her breasts."
William: "Her breasts."
Chaucer: "Ye... yes, you... you could, umm... umm... but I... I would tend to look above her breasts, William."
William: "Well I... I miss her throat."
Chaucer: "Uh, still higher really, toward the heavens."
Kate: "The moon at least, her breasts were not that impressive.")
And more from my comedy folder. :) I love this movie. And if you don't, I will fong you. XD A good fonging is in order!
