BPAL update 2
Nov. 10th, 2008 11:04 pmAnd another BPAL update! *applause* *applause*
Horreur Sympathetique
Blood musk, golden honey, thick black wine, champagne grapes, tobacco flower, plum blossom, tonka bean, oakmoss, carnation, benzoin, opoponax, and sugar cane.
Grapes + sugar cane = Hubba Bubba grape. Or at least that's what Katie-sister thinks. I'm inclined to agree that it smells like cheap candy. All those other things? Who knows. Cheap candy. 4/10 - entertaining, but when would I ever wear it?
Vinland
Crisp northern wind blowing over loganberry, wild roses, prairie crocus, iris versicolor Linné, mountain avens, yellow birch bark, mayflower and maple leaf.
Turns out... well... soapy. Again. I think it might be the rose; I can't have rose+ or else it just smells like cheap grandma soaps. 3.5/10.
Nyx
Night-blooming jasmine, warmed by myrrh, lifted by the promise of rose.
This smells odd. Katie says it smells chemical, I think it smells kind of ozoney. 3/10.
Psyche
Bulgar rose, Chinese white musk, lavender, orchid and frankincense.
My notes just say "sharp and gross". I think it's the musk. 2/10.
Niflheim
Dark, damp blossoms winding through an impenetrable, murky gloom.
I can't smell this at all on Katie. On me, it smells GRODY. Just... gross. Ick. 1/10.
Baghdad
Amber, saffron and bergamot with mandarin, nutmeg, Bulgar rose, musk and sandalwood.
Weird, musky, not-very-nice smell. I suspect that this could mellow if I gave it a chance, but 3/10 for now.
Morocco
Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia.
This one? Made it aaaaaaall worth it. This and Lyonesse. Spicy and sweet, but different enough from Hetairae to be wonderful. 9/10.
THANK YOU AGAIN, AMBER :D :D :D :D *glomps!* If I find a nice BPAL that is sandalwood-based, I will pass it on. ;)

Date: 2008-11-12 01:32 am (UTC)I think you did get a kind of poor selection, out of the thirteen you sent I only really liked three or four enough that I'll hang on to them. :) But I'll keep an eye out!

Date: 2008-11-11 02:45 pm (UTC)Amazing how the stuff you think will work SO DOESN'T and vice versa sometimes, though, huh? It definitely looks like rose is not your friend. Maybe we should get you some dragon's blood. ;)

Date: 2008-11-12 01:34 am (UTC)Rose is okay, but only if it's actually the dominant part of the scent (Reaper and the Flowers was so-so, Moon Rose smells fine). It's just when you put it in with other things that it rebels and becomes cheap grandma soap. ;)
I think it's pretty clear now that me and spices are friends. :D

Date: 2008-11-12 04:43 pm (UTC)Mph - that was sort of what I meant, but nuances are very good to know. Exceptions sometimes make the rule and all that.
Yay spices! I've not had a chance to try much GC spicy stuff so that's about where my reccs end. ;) Aside from Tanin'Iver, but that's very cinnamony and given your reaction to Rage, I'm not sure it'd be a great choice for you.
