BPAL update!

I have these sorted by my score for them on my list, so it goes from good to awful.

Lyonesse
Golden vanilla and gilded musk, stargazer lily, white sandalwood, grey amber, elemi, orris root, ambergris and sea moss.

Definitely the best of the ones I've tried so far, this one is a nice vanilla with some florals. Puts me in mind of a warm golden color, if that makes sense. 7.5/10. I think this may replace Moon Rose as my girly scent.

White Rabbit
Strong black tea and milk with white pepper, ginger, honey and vanilla, spilled over the crisp scent of clean linen.

This one, for no reason Katie-sister and I can understand, turns into lavender. Pretty much immediately. Despite the fact that lavender shows up nowhere in that list. Yep. 4/10.

Florence
Elegant iris, bright berries, gilded amber and velvety spices.

This one turns into a slightly chemical floral. 3/10.

Rage
Black amber erupting with a dark volcanic surge of fiery dragon's blood and a burst of melati, rose geranium, mandarin and black currant.

I can't even describe what this smells like other than BAD. Just... not nice at all. 2/10.

Libertine
Rosewood and chamomile with bergamot, violet, red sandalwood, primrose and Arabian musk.

On my sister, this smells like a nice rose. On me, it smells like talcum powder or crappy bathroom soaps. 2/10.

Xiuhtecuhtli
Copal, plumeria and sweet orange and the smoke of South American incense and crushed jungle blooms.

(As a side note: how in godfuck is that pronounced?)

This one is chemical orange. Not pleasant. Eventually faded into something okay on my sister. 2/10.

Lear
White cedarwood, blue sage and bay leaf.

EXTREME BAY LEAF.
SO EXTREME. DOES NOT GO AWAY, GAH.
0/10.
(Seriously, you could just stick your nose in a bottle of bay leaves and inhale deeply. To the point of Calvin-with-the-mustard-jar inhalation. And it would probably not be so extreme.)

Still to try: Morocco, Baghdad, Niflheim, Vinland, Psyche, Nyx, Horreur Sympathetique.

Sadly that is true of Lear, although I've found it makes an alright oil for oil burning/room deodorizing purposes if you dilute it heavily.

Well if you like Tristran or the Fairy Market and have an empty Imp's ear I might be willing to exchange once our order comes in. Now I just wish I knew when that was.

Lyonesse is pretty darn nice. :) I pronounce Xiuhtecuhtli "shu-wee-ta-quat-lee" but I'm probably butchering it. There's a section of the BPAL FAQs forum devoted to how you pronounce scent names. ;) Xiuhtecuhtli, incidentally, smells like bright shiny happy oranges and sunshine on me. Oh, skin chemistry.

*LOL* Hm, so maybe it's not just "BPAL doesn't quite do it to me" so much as "THE IMPS THEY SENT ME ARE CRAZY."

I also recall really liking Lyonesse, and the Aztec-y one... very nice and orangey. ^.^

Dragon blood is officially not a smell I like, though.

Lear smelled very... waxy to me. I couldn't decide if it was the juniper or the bay leaf but it was definitely a very strange... round... smell.
