I didn't think of it as a mistake, simply that the books didn't run in real-time. (After all, it ends in 2017.)

Of course, Dudley had a PS2 in one of the books, didn't he? Comparing that against the timeline might not exactly work out.

With the time, he started in '91 and ended in '98, right? The PS2 didn't fit the timeline though.
