Rules for one of those ex-gay communities, picked apart and laughed at.

Sadly, laughing at them? Doesn't make them any less FUCKED UP. (See here for where the person got the list of rules. Also, here's the website of Love in Action.)

So much hate for so few words

I took a look at the homepage for this "refuge" place. Looks like a camp for uber-conservative parents to send their kids to to get them de-gayed. Yet another backwards group using snippets of the bible to promote a completely inane stance on life.

Dude, that place is, as Alex said, fucked up. I read through those rules and I'm wondering why they're sending this guy to some 1950's conservative fascist regime.

Any institution that enforces a set of fascist rules to inhibit personal identity is ass. You may quote me.

The part that pisses me off is there's still places like this around. Surely somewhere in the last 2000 years, humanity has learned to think rather than just instinctively react to that which does not conform to their concept of the norm?

Just as surely there will be people who attempt to make their way the only way 2000 years from now. I have plenty of words for my hatred of this site; most of these are synonyms for the word "ass-hattery". However, I wouldn't begin to think that this type of thing is going to disappear any time soon. Some people still believe that the earth is flat. Some people believe that 0.999... != 1. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Proof_that_0.999..._equals_1)

Who is this guy and why is he trying to discredit:
1) A known fact
2) A known fact displayed with an elegant, irrefutable proof
3) A known fact displayed with an elegant, irrefutable proof when he himself seems to have only a "cosmic" understanding of mathematics...

Ass-hattery is indeed a good term for someone such as this. "I believe this thing to be false and thus in the face of good evidence to the contrary, I will continue with my belief."

As with the people running this ghastly sham of a camp, why do people have such a hard time giving up on beliefs when presented with contrary evidence? Belief is fine, (I ascribe to faith in certain aspects) but belief and faith without a little logic is just the ravings of a lunatic. And any religion that urges you not to question for "who are you to know the will of God?" might as well just put "Welcome to the cult of..." above their front door.

As I've said in many an article (both on my poorly attended Canadian Youth Opinion site and news paper articles), to follow something blindly without questioning means you will never find the whole truth or understand the whole truth of a thing.

The biggest issue I have with "0.999... != 1" guy is that throughout all of this dialogue, he's failed to refute the initial proof. Without doing so, the argument is moot. Gra!

So I made this article a while back and I'm pretty proud of how it's fleshed out. You like?

Wow. That kind of brainwashing, oppression, and isolation from the rest of the world is scary. Forcing something like that on a person who doesn't want it is incredibly inhumane, and I think there's something wrong with anyone who does want it. (Not that the lifestyle changes the program is trying to achieve are all bad, but anyone who would willingly subject themselves to something so inhumane has serious problems with emotional self-abuse.) I noticed that none of the staff have any actual mental health training. That should say a lot to RESPONSIBLE parents.

Note: I say that speaking as a Christian who believes it is morally wrong to have homosexual sex, and who considers herself kind of caught between being straight and being bi (some attraction to women, so I can't call myself straight, but I've never been seriously interested in one -- though that's partly because I deliberately don't think sexually about women as much as I might if I were trying to explore anything that might interest me, and I only date guys because of the moral issues -- so I can't really call myself bi).
