Uh, what?

$20 in banking fees?

There is noooooo waaaaaay it should be that high. *sigh* Methinks I'm going to have a chat with the nice Scotiabank people.

(Seriously, it's like 85c per ABM/Interac transaction.)

I miss the days of this shit being free.

President's Choice has an awesome bank card with a savings account with like, 2% interest and NO banking fees. You may want to look into it - I'm switching all my stuff over at the end of August. :)

I too became a President's Choice banker, because the thought of even paying $1.25 a month bugs me ;P (I switched *fully* just before my account dipped below $2K.)

I really don't experience the difference... but then again, my credit cards were always separate from my banking. (and seeing how I don't use them to go in debt, the rates barely effect me except that one month where I forgot to hit OK on the Internet banking site, and didn't notice until a few days after my bill was due)

Oh, and if you wanna complain about bank fees, just try using ATMs in Japan :P (Generally free, but they close at 6 on weekdays, on Saturdays I have to pay 105 yen, and Sundays they're closed. 7-11 has bank machines that have better hours, but then there's yet another surcharge)

Y'know, I saw your post, and I thought: "Oh! Ohhhhhhhhh! I can give Ali some good advice!" But two other people have already beat me to it. There really isn't much else I can say that they haven't.

PC Financial -- I'm tellin' ya, it's where it's at. I've had my account for years now, and haven't had a single service charge. Except for that one time when PayPal tried extracting money from my account that wasn't there, and they fucked me over, twice.

The interest rates aren't the greatest. The interest on my Chequing account is negligible, but the Savings I believe is around 2%. Not the best, but it could be worse: you could be paying for it. I'm with Dunk on the whole 'Sucks to be paying $1.25 monthly' dealy.

And, I switched over from Scotiabank before they started charging me up the ass for every transaction.

And... yeah. That's all I gots.
