So Pat and I were talking about how I am totally unmotivated to do anything lately, and were trying to figure out something new for me to do. I already have my plate filled with roleplaying, but since the actual RP I get to do is limited by Patrick's schedule and the weekend, that's been drastically reduced. Nor do I have 15 hours a week being spent on classes (an upper, usually) - now I have work (a major drain on my energy). So we thought about it, and when Joyee suggested I take up dance, I thought, "Well, ballet isn't really my thing, but I always love ballroom dancing - one of the few benefits of weddings and big parties, really." So... we tried to find ballroom dance classes in Brampton.

Turns out there are jazz, hip-hop, bhangra (which, from the sounds of it, is the dance they did for the Indian/South Asian portion of CultureFest), and belly dancing - at least, that's what's offered by Brampton Parks & Rec. A little further investigation shows not much better; I think maybe 3 places offer ballroom dancing classes.

However.

A lot of dance places DO offer, in addition to dance, drama and vocal training. Some of these even list "musical theatre" as what they specifically train.

So now I'm all, "yeah, I could go do training for musicals!" And then my brain kicks in with the same thing it does whenever I feel like writing - "What's the point? You'll never be good enough to do it professionally."

So, yeah. Mreh.

1)Do you believe in love at first sight? Why or why not?

Eeeh... not really, mostly because I don't think it's ever happened to me. I don't think love at first sight can really be called 'love'.

2) What physical feature attracts you the most (romantically) to another person?

Hair or eyes. I like really distinctive eyes - especially ones with really rich colors. (Very pale, very dark, electric blue, etc.)

3) What do you think is the biggest benefit of being in a romantic relationship?

Um... probably just having someone there to talk to.

4) Biggest downside?

Coming out of them. :P

5) Has your idea of love and romance changed? If so, how?

Probably. Almost certainly. And, well, look above and go back through my entries, I guess.

If you wanna go into classes on vocals, I'll warn you now that musical threatre probably isn't where you wanna look. I can't vouch for the lessons themselves but I did do a competition and they didn't say a single thing that we did wrong vocally. All of it was movements and such. (we didn't even expect to have to do any of that and weren't told 'til about 5 minutes before so we just kinda adlibbed... neither of us were/are actors...) I'm under the impression that yes, they will give some kind of vocal training, but there will be a much heavier emphasis on acting methods. Mind you, you had drama listead as something you were interested in so maybe this is right up your alley ;)

and even if you'll never be good enough to do something professionally, there's no point in not doing it for that reason. I sing all the time, and picked up a guitar a few years ago and I'll never do either of those professionally ^-^

Who cares about doing it in a professional nature, so long as you are able to acquire personal pleasure from it? It's better to learn because you would enjoy the experience, than to learn because you *should*.

Belly dancing is FUCKING FUN.

Both interpretations. And unlike ballet, you CAN learn enough belly-dancing to be a pro. I mean, if you want to be the classy equivalent of a stripper.

Or modern, modern dance is very accepting of people who don't fit the ballet stereotype.

By classy, I mean, all of the hot, none of the stripping.

Oh oh!

Jen took ballroom lessons a little while back, so she'd be a really good source of info for danceisms.
