Alrighty. Here's my goes at everyone's playlist.

Remember: I make no promises that you will not a) already have the song, b) know the song, c) hate the song. These just make me think of you. Especially you, David; I suspect my tastes run 90% counter to yours...

1. Alanis Morisette - Thank U
(The only song you've ever given me was Alanis, but I didn't want to put that on your playlist, so I went for something that sounds like something you might say.)
2. Morcheeba - Can't Keep a Good Girl Down
(My only girl-power song that I can think of offhand, I think you might appreciate lyrics like 'a roundhouse kick will leave you dead'.)
3. A*Teens - Halfway Round the World
(You, like everyone else, seems to want to travel. This will be my pop sendoff, goddamnit ;)
4. China Dolls - You Mei You Lai
(I have no idea what the words to this song mean. I think it's in Thai? It was a rec from CJ, anyway. But it's fun, even if it makes no sense.)
5. Christine Lavin - A Musical Apology (Regretting What I Said ...)
(The song actually has a much longer title. It's fun. And vengeful. Thus = Amber.)
6. The Fables - Heave Away
(I needed a pirate/sailor song. This is it.)
7. Lit - I'm In Over My Head
(Because two out of every three Amber posts are "AAAAAAAAAAAGH! STREEEEEEEESS! Good stress! But AAAAAAAAGH!")
8. The Nylons - Prince of Darkness
(Because I've been remarkably camp-free thus far. I think you could appreciate the amusement factor of this entry.)
9. Reel Big Fish - Leaving on a Jet Plane
(This is my nod to your love for hearing about Aberrant. This song cover = Jake's first song ever sung for the group. He never really lived it down.)
10. The Black Mages - Those Who Fight Further
(Video games + rock = true love. I can only assume that applies for you, too.)

1. A Perfect Circle - Orestes
(It's the first song I think when I think "dark subject matter".)
2. Dave Navarro - Avoiding the Angel
(This one probably rates as the most depressing song I know. Also has connotations to Vampire for me, which went back to you.)
3. Mike Oldfield - Far Above the Clouds
(Non-vocal. Well, a little kid talking. And a few other things. Mostly instrumental.)
4. Prodigy - Narayan
(I knew I was going to choose one song by Prodigy... It wound up being this one. Why? I think it's the most danceable-to.)
5. Slipknot - Wait and Bleed
(Uh... This actually came up on my playlist as I was cycling through songs and I was like, 'yeah... David'. I just have mental images of you slamming around to it.)
6. Stratovarius - Millenium
(It's not JPOP, but it is foreigners... Swedes, I think? Anyway, it's fast. Honestly, that's a pretty big consideration. Not as angry, sad or weird as some of the others.)
7. System of a Down - Aerials
(I did consider Chop Suey, but I figured that was a copout. However, you did not specify angry, just dark... I think this is dark, myself. Maybe not your usual dark, but it's certainly not a happy-making song.)
8. The Tea Party - Angels
(It's a get away from it all type song.)
9. UnWoman - Envy
(This is another one with the synth involved, I think. Anyway, it's sad and kind of weird.)
10. Beborn Beton - Hemoglobin
(Another one for mostly the vampire associations. What can I say - two years of LARP pretty much cemented you in the whole vampire mindset for me.)

Doug, you'll have to wait a little bit - even just these two lists took me a while.

Actually, those were pretty good choices, and I love synth stuff. Narayan is already on permanent rotation on my mp3 discman, as are other tracks by The Tea Party and Beborn Beton. (Especially Hemoglobin.)

I'm going to have to track down CDs of the other artists you mentioned.
