What's a non-cliché way of saying "like night and day"?

While still being as effective?

Um.. no clue. Pick two ideas that seem at odds that haven't been picked before? Are the two people being described in some way very similar despite their differences? If so, pick two opposing objects that are nevertheless thematically linked, such as a sword and shield, maybe. If not.. nothing immediately comes to mind.
...like sunshine and starlight? (Not as an example of the latter.)

I'd go with "like ice cream and frozen yogurt" although maybe I'm just nuts.

Is this a question of "as different as night and day" or trying to imply that they're close/follow each other anyway? What tone are you going for -- ie, what kind of narrator do you have? (like, if a farmer, maybe "as different as a horse and its cart" or something?)
