My mother is supremely weird.

Apparently a boy that kisses boys and girls, and who is self-admittedly bisexual... isn't really bisexual.

Or something.

And being bisexual is something that shouldn't be talked about in front of my 15-year-old sister.

I dunno, maybe it's me.

It's not just you -- that's upsetting, because a) the "what they say isn't true" and b) the "don't talk about it" attitudes are what breeds prejudice -- even understated "that's not RIGHT!" prejudice.

Grr.

Good luck with that. ^^;;

Ah, hon, I've been there....

My mother did the same thing with me... hang in there. All my best, it's hard to deal with other people's insecurities and ignorance being pushed onto you. :/

(By the way, I saw you linked to on childfree in case you're wondering. ^^;;)

Oh, yargh. It's not just you.

I really hate that second thing. I don't think there's ever an age when you "shouldn't talk about" sexual orientation to kids . . . my own parents have used that line on me, and two of my exes' parents as well.

"ALEXSMASH!!!"

... no, wait...

Well, it would be more instantly gratifying, at least? *hugs*

You could point out that your sister will be unprepared for some parts of life if she doesn't know about this stuff, and it could result in her being in an embarrasing situation. Or, you could just talk to your sister. At 15, she's probably old enough to decide what she wants to know vs. doesn't want to know.

Your mother IS supremely weird.

What's her reasoning behind the boy who kisses boys and girls != bisexual?

And she's way too protective about your sister, I bet she hears worse in school.

I don't know Alex's mother at all, but is it possible that she's one of those people who understand that there are straight people and gay people but who simply don't believe a bisexual could exist?

I guess then she thinks that Alex's bisexual-ness was only a phase.

Oh NOES! Quick, Alex, make out with me!

All right. I have to hear this. What is her definition of a bisexual?

I mean, in certain academia, it is used to refer to a species that has two sexes - thus, humans are "bisexual". However, barring that... what's her definition?

And *why* is Simon not bisexual?

Well, in the end, if all else fails... you can beat her to death with a shovel a la Willow ^-^

Yeah. I got a mom like that... only my mom carries it that one step further. See, I'm straight, and not allowed to discuss boys, sex, relationships that go anywhere past hand holding, the fact that I was sexually assaulted or any thing like that pertaining to my friends in front of her, with her, or even if she's with in hearing distance. Or in front of my 19 year old brother. Who is living with his girlfriend :p Oh, and any gay friends I have just don't exist. If they do come up, she changes the subject.....

It's not you. Wasnt' there a song, parent's just don't understand?? =P
