Slightly less insane (if only for the racist reason that the person was brown and not white) but still pretty shocking is this testament to the state of American civil liberties.
I can almost see where people are coming from. The entire sentence, "I know this is kind of a bomb," can be taken out of context without too much effort. I can understand some concern on other people's parts, but to go through what he did was beyond ridiculous.
When I read the part where he handed over the crossword to the security person, I was almost expecting the word 'bomb' to be the answer to one of the clues. If he was given that much grief for that, that'd be insane.
Assuming we would actually pay large sums of money for airplane tickets to go to some Magic tournament in the States, I could almost see a bunch of us getting arrested because we casually refer to powerful cards as "bombs."
Another thought that crossed my mind while reading that: I'm not sure if you'd remember at all, but in Final Fantasy VII, there's a part where you have to ask the mayor of Midgar for a keycard, but you have to guess the password. More often than not, it's 'bomb,' and if it is and you guess it right he says something like, "That's right, BOMB! I just love the sound of that word!" Imagine him saying that on that flight.
