The Mary Sue quiz amuses me. I think I will try it, but I do not know on who. Maybe that Ayori-remake.

Is the character's name your own, your nickname, your screenname, or a slight variant- for example, Kelli instead of Kelly? (10 points)

No.

Is the character's name a noun or verb not often used by other people in your world for that function? (4 points)

No. It was random syllables I threw together that sounded vaguely Japanese. Apparently it IS an actual Japanese name, but not a very common one, and not one with any discernible meaning that I can find.

Is the character's name completely inappropriate to the setting, such as a Japanese name in a world with no other trace of Japanese language or culture? (5 points)

Hmmm... I haven't created the culture too much, yet, but since it will almost inevitably be more European than Japanese, I'll take the 5 points. (5)

Is the character's main name a pseudonym? (2 points): No. Whether or not she'll take on a pseudonym later remains to be seen.

...that she chose as a reminder of her past? (Add 2): N/A

...that is more "profound" or "cool" than her original name? (Add 1) N/A

...that anyone with half a brain could use to connect the character with her original name, such as "Emilia" instead of "Emily?" (Add 4 points): N/A

Is the character named after a famous hero of the world or an animal? (2 points)

Already established that the name doesn't mean anything, and it's doubtful that there will be a hero with that name.

...And she has a mystical connection with that hero or that animal? (Add 4): N/A

Is the character's name a modern one in a medieval setting, such as Tiffany or Brittany? (3 points) No.

Character's Appearance

Does the character have an eye color that is unusual/rare among her people or species? (1 point)

In the original RPG, they were violet. In the story, they're just an interesting shade of dark blue. Which, admittedly, is still uncommon. (6)

...that is unique among her people/species? (2 points) No.

...that is nonexistent in nature? (Silver eyes with blue lightning bolts, etc.) (4 points) No.

Do the character's eyes get described more often than anyone else's? (2 points)

If I was going for anything to be more described than anything else, it'd be her physical build or her hair.

...long after the reader should know what she looks like? (3 points)

Can't say, as I haven't written that far.

...with many adjectives that are close variations of each other? (Blue eyes that are also called azure, cerulean, 'like a summer sky,' cobalt, etc.) (4 points)

Probably not.

Does the character have long, silky hair that flows down to the middle of her back or ankles? (2 points)

...guilty. Middle of the back. (8)

...that never gets dirty or tangled in branches? (Add 2 points)

Hah! Oh, it'll get tangled, all right.

...that she can leave free without braiding and never have to wash or tend? (Add 2 points)

No. Actually, she's... kind of fanatical about both those things (keeping it tied back and well-tended), which is funny, because you'd think she'd have more important things to worry about.

The original Ayori, however, would be up to 12 points.

...that remains free in the midst of battle? (Add 3 points)

Original Ayori didn't DO a whole lot of battle. XD; But it did remain free. Water coming from your hands does not usually equal a problem for your hair. So original Ayori is at 15, now.

Does the hair have some unusual marking, like a white streak that does not follow a scar or multiple colors? (3 points)

._. Well... it is white. (11/18)

Does the character's hair get described more often than any other character's? (2 points)

Can't say. I think original!Ayori's fainting spells were the most-often described thing, actually. XD;

...at inappropriate times, such as in the midst of battle? (Add 2 points): Nope.

Does the character's appearance have a "reason" other than you just wanting her to look that way? (Blue eyes to prove that she's the reincarnation of a goddess, white streak to show that she's blessed, etc.) (4 points)

No. I just like the look. :D

Do other characters rhapsodize on about her beauty? (3 points) (Add 2 points if the character is one who wouldn't normally do this, like a taciturn soldier)

In the RPG, Nym did, but that isn't my fault XD And in the potential book... no. No more than "hey, you're hot. Sex?", anyway.

Does she cause dramatic effects with her beauty, such as people fainting or traffic accidents? (5 points)

XD NO.

Does she have scars that, no matter how ugly they would probably look in real life, just "add to her attractiveness?" (3 points)

A scar, but it's a ritual scar and not something deemed sexy. Scary, maybe, but only for what it signifies.
Original Ayori had arm scars, but she wore gloves to hide them and I don't think they were ever revealed. Maybe Nym or Teri saw them.

Does she have an unusual or symbolically significant marking or birthmark? (3 points)

New!Ayori, yes, the ritual scar I mentioned. Original Ayori, no. (N!A 14/O!A 18)

Background

Does your character have:

...one dead parent? (1 point): N!A, yes. O!A, yes. (15/19)

...two dead parents? (2 points) So, hah, you see... (16/19)

...one or two murdered parents? (3 points) (Add 2 points if they were killed in front of her): This is where I get fuzzy on New!Ayori's story, because I vaguely remember something about horrible burning death. I'm going to say 17/19.

...dead parents who stayed alive long enough to make dramatic death speeches? (3 points) (Add 5 points if they were wounded in the heart or throat): No.

Is the character an orphan/foundling/of unknown descent? (2 points): No.

...who will dramatically rediscover her heritage? (Add 2 points): N/A

...who was raised as a peasant but is really a descendant of royalty? (Add 7 points, and I would ask you to please reconsider. Everyone and their mother has done this plotline to death): Baahahahaha. No. She actually IS a peasant.

Was her family abusive? (3 points). (Add 2 points for every form of abuse on the list that your character has suffered): No, not that I remember specifying. In fact, I remember O!Ayori's mother being quite proud of her in that one story I wrote.

Is the character the object of a prophecy? (10 points, and consider that note about reconsidering repeated here): Not that I can think of.

...whose coming has been delayed by a sadistic god by "destiny" for several hundred years? (Add 5 points): Nope!

Is the character running away from home? (3 points): Hasn't got a home by the time the story picks up.

...despite knowing diddlysquat about surviving in the world outside? (Add 3 points)

Original Ayori, kiiiinda, but she was a psychotic recluse with a hate-on for chimera and a borderline fanaticism that kind of skewed her perspective. New!Ayori is much better with the sanity, but not the fanaticism. (N!A 17, O!A 22)

Are the bad guys/good guys looking for the character? (3 points)

...yes. I must concede that one. (20/25)

Skills and Special Abilities

Each skill from the following list is worth 1 point. If your character can perform the skill perfectly the first time, without any training whatsoever, then each is worth 3 points.

Sword-fighting. Yes/no. (21/25)
Knife-throwing. I'll count the boomerang here. (21/26)
Archery. No.
Bare-handed combat. Yes/no. (22/26)
Destructive magic (flinging fireballs and the like). Oh, just a little... (23/27)
Healing. N!A could, but doesn't know how.
Singing beautifully. I'd never thought about it. New Ayori is probably at least passable, as she'll have lots of practice on war songs. Old, not so much. But beautifully? No.
Speaking to animals. Hah. No. Unless chimera count, and they can speak to anyone, so no. ;)
Shapeshifting. This falls under the 'new Ayori probably could, if she could get past that little barrier...'
Speaking to gods. I'm not even sure there ARE gods, yet.
Speaking more than two languages. More than two, not two or more? ;) Then she's safe (and even then, only by the end of the story).
Elemental magic. Oh yes. (24/28)
Witchcraft. What's the difference between this and the above? I'm going to give a 'no' to it, as I think this is meant to signify a herbalist/potion-maker type.
Mental powers (telepathy, telekinesis). Hah! No!

Is the character the "chosen" of a goddess/prophecy/elemental force/animal/big blue alien from Planet Yarkzarin? (5 points): No.

Does the character manage to do things that would be impossible for anyone else (such as dress as a man when she has big busty breasts, survive falls from tall buildings with all bones intact, walk on a broken leg?) (4 points)

Doesn't try the former (and has small breasts anyway), might survive a fall if she were lucky, but not if she actually hit the ground, and no.

Does the character perform magic that most people in your world cannot perform? (3 points)

No. There are a significant number of mages in both their worlds.

Add one point for every condition that applies to your character's magic.
She can do magic normally reserved for:

People of higher levels of training.
N!A, no. Original Ayori WAS the best Water Mage of her time... (24/29)
The opposite gender.
Another species.
Another type of mage.
People descended from a different bloodline.
The gods.

Is your character THE most powerful/best mage or fighter in the world? (7 points)

No. Original Ayori, first off, nearly died to random chimera X. Secondly, if she hadn't had underhanded tactics, she would have been losing to them a lot more. Thirdly, she got sapped of energy a LOT.

New Ayori has limitations on her power, as well, so no.

Personality and Relationships

These are worth 2 points each.

Does your character have only flaws that:

Are not really flaws, like "too much compassion" or "too much wit?":

Original Ayori would pass out, needing sleep to refuel, and wake up without having gotten any rest. She worked constantly at half-full (at best). So no.

New Ayori... not sure yet. I haven't decided on flaws, I don't think. So (26/29)

Do not inconvenience her, like not being able to cook but then never having to cook? No.

Are bad habits, such as biting her nails?

Both have bad habits, but those aren't their ONLY flaws.

Can be airbrushed away at the end of the story, like timidity or arrogance that miraculously vanish?

One of new!Ayori's major flaws is her fanaticism, which will disappear (or at least get switched to something else) by the end of the story. Old Ayori would have wound up dead, ideally. (28/29)

Do your character's flaws and strengths contradict each other? (8 points):

No. No magic-user-that-can't-use-magic here.

Does your character instantly win the trust and affection of all the good characters? (4 points)

Old!Ayori, no. XD; The bad-guy characters, no as well. Not ALL of them. *cough* (I can't help it that the two that stuck around both loved her/obsessed over her ^_~;)

New!Ayori... does possess a certain amount of charisma, I will admit. But not ALL of them, again.

...alienate/make spiteful or jealous or fearful the bad ones? (Add 3 points)

Old!Ayori never talked to the good guys, really, and they KNEW she was the enemy.
New!Ayori ... maybe. (31/29)

...make other characters obsess over her even when she's not around? (Add 4 points)

O!A: I REFUSE TO HAVE THAT BE MY FAULT. XD;;;
N!A: Well, she's always around, so...
(31/33)

...completely change another character's personality, such as redeeming a villain, or making the jealous bitch into her worshipper? (Add 5 points)

Not that I can think of... ^_____^;

Do the character and her love interest fall in love...
...within a few months? (2 points)
I don't even know WHY that gets points... (33/35)
...within a week? (4 points)
...within a day? (6 points)
...at first sight? (8 points)
That'd be lust. :D

Are they soulmates or reincarnated lovers who have been together before? (10 points) No.

Does the character cause out-of-character reactions in others, such as making the arrogant mage care more about her than his research, or impatient thieves put up with her whining about everything? (6 points)

Not that I can think of/remember.

Does the character never make:

Big mistakes? (2 points)

O!A: Let's kill off all the chimera, the lifeblood of this world, because I have a vendetta against them for something I DID! YEAH!
N!A: don't know yet.

Small mistakes? (3 points) Oh man...
Factual mistakes? (4 points) Lyta said it best: 'I lack something witty for this.'
Perceptual mistakes? (She knows who's good and who's evil, etc.) (5 points) Many of those.
Are the character's perceptions identical with objective reality? (20 points)This is the biggest sign of a Canon Mary Sue. XD NO.
Is there never any true competition for the main character? (5 points). Oh, there's competition all right.
Is she the only one with any true personality? (7 points) Nope.

For Male Characters Only
Unfortunately, Lyta did not leave in the female counterpart. ;_; Er, if there was one...

Do all the women/men love him? (5 points)
Is he a maverick who goes against the authorities but never gets in trouble? (5 points)
Does he brood about things? (2 points)
...that are not his fault? (Add 4 points)
...and the majority of his life is consumed by his angst?

Your Relationship To The Character

Do you fantasize about being the character? (3 points) XD NO.
...falling in love with/having sex with her? (4 points) *sporfle*
...falling in love with/having sex with her love interest? (5 points) Nope.

Do you act as the character outside the story (in a character journal, in an RPG, dressing up as her, etc.)? (8 points)

Like Flint, Ayori started as a different character in an RPG. Some major aspects have changed (i.e. the nature of her magic and how it works, the setting), and some have stayed the same (overall appearance, personality traits, name). But if they met in the street, they'd probably kill each other.
...oh, fine, I'll take the damn points. (41/43)

Do you think the character is above criticism? (8 points) AHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Does the character bear a marked physical resemblance to you? (4 points) Nope.
IS the character you? (15 points) Nope. XD;

Total: 41 for New Ayori, 43 for Old Ayori. Not a Sue! Woot!

0-80: Excellent character-building. Go you forth and give the world a good fantasy character.
81-175: Well, she might have some Sueish traits, but as long as you don't get carried away, you've still done well.
176-250: Sue. Go after the points you've probably earned in the personality and skills sections, and try to make others' reactions to her and her own powers a little bit more realistic.
251-299: Um. You can pull this off if you're a really, really good writer. I would advise against it, though.
300+: Completely and utterly Sueish. She needs to be hacked and burned. Or at least get some of those ridiculous cliches chopped off.

Hours of endless amusement! :D

Glad I could amuse :D

And the one I picked it up off of use a female character and there wasn't a female counterpart, only the man-one.

Ohhhh Ayori, how I miss you XD
