So funny, it hurts to laugh!

Which deadly sin do you represent? (Angel Sanctuary Pics)

So I had a really good conversation with SimonB today. Called him up to drop off Twelve, which is a book about disillusioned, rich high school/university kids doing drugs in New York in the four (three?) days leading up to Christmas. Written by a 19-year-old. It's interesting, but...

(tangent)
I do require my stories to have something more than just the presentation and change of characters. Character studies are interesting, but they just lack something. I don't mind them as much in short stories, because then less of my time is taken up by them, but in a full-length novel, the story has to go somewhere.

This may mean that, should I ever become an author, my works will not win the Nobel Prize for Literature, Pulitzers, etc. Hell, I may never even get a Hugo or Nebula. Do I care? No. I merely want to write something that people find interesting. Like Tanya Huff. I want to be like Tanya Huff.

((Though, as a side note, I don't necessarily want to write like her - unless writing like her means "believable dialogue, cool characters, wit, 'my characters are bisexual unless otherwise noted', and great turns of phrase". What I mean is, I don't want to be known as "writing in the style of Tanya Huff". That always bothers me in reviews - particularly of contemporaries, but even for generational gaps.))

Anyway.

So! Talking to Simon!

He has biceps now, which is the scariest thing ever - they're like muscle-shaped rocks! We went to see Mambo Italiano - which, to reiterate, also proves that all families are psychotic. It made some very true observations about Italian families, but it was a little... mmm... the timing was off in most scenes, sadly. Overall it was okay, but not really any great work of film. Not like, say, Cease to Exist ((I forget the French title)), which is the saddest, most terrifying indie film I've ever seen. If you get a chance to watch it, do so.

Favorite line from Mambo:
"Ma, how did you get in? The door was locked and the alarm system was on."
"Nino. I'm Sicilian."

Anyway, back to Simon again - it's really great to talk to him. I'd almost come home more weekends just to be able to talk to him, but then again, no. (Because I am busy hating my parents.) Talked about Pat, and school, and books and such. Also hot boys. ((Me = super fag hag.))
Apparently he now likes daiquiris (!!Alcohol!!), and Thursday is his "off" day (no classes), so I'm veeery tempted to get him up to Waterloo for Thirsty Thursdays at Outer Mongolian. Mmm, daiquiris. Mmm, Frozen Mudslides. Mmm, $2.50. (/end plug) He says he might do it, too. That would be rockin' good times. He'd suffocate from our cat though. Hmm... still, tempting like pants.

Joyee and I have been sort-of planning for me going out there - right now the plan is this: if my exams end early during the exam period, I will fly out to Victoria sometime after exams, spend like five days there, and then fly back for Christmas. If that doesn't work (i.e. if my last exam is, like, the 20th or something), I'll go during Reading Week or something.

...I hope my schedule works out for exam time. I miss my Joyee-kitten and Steven-kitten. Po.

Eee, I just went all cutesy thinking of Steven meowing and Joyee doing the cute face. I really do miss them a lot. I shall have to steal Patrick's phone and call them on one of Steven's days off...

As for LARP news, Lidia will rise again!! She and Jace are *so* going to die... but maybe they can rid the world of Boogiepop before they do. Ha.

Can't wait to have her back, even if it is only for one game.
