Quantum mechanics gives me hope.
Why do philosophers love the idea of humans being deluded? Deluded into thinking that we have free will, deluded into thinking that we see the world as it is when we don't?
It's easier to believe, I guess. But that seems a little lazy, because once you get to a point where you believe that you have no choice, or that you see the world only through filters, you have to go back to lying to yourself that you do have choice, because otherwise, what is the point? Of anything? No matter what you do, you were going to do it anyway. And that includes your suicide at the realization (or maybe that's just me).
Determinism Causes Mass Suicide in Cult.
Actually, if I could write a story about a deterministic cult like that, I would. Maybe I'll try, but I guarantee that a) I'll hate it every step of the way and/or b) never finish it.
Anyway. Yeah. Quantum mechanics gives me hope.
