Jan. 23rd, 2003 02:29 amI think I'll start by sending everyone over to Jason's last post, not for the survey but for the diatribe on how fucking stupid America really is. I'm frightened. Very, very frightened.
Also, some people (more than one) seem to be confused as to what a transgendered person is. *puts on teaching cap* Essentially, a transgendered person is someone who feels they were born into the wrong type of body - i.e. "a woman trapped in a man's body" or vice versa. The feeling of unease in, or even outright abhorrence of, their physical body causes some of them to get hormone therapy and occasionally surgery so they can become the gender they feel they are meant to be. Most of them (I believe) are crossdressers, but not all crossdressers are transgendered.
If anyone watched Boys Don't Cry with us during Gay Movie Week, Brandon Teena was a pre-operational Female to Male Transexual (FTM). Not, as the script said at one point, a hermaphrodite, that's a physical state of being where the person has one teste (?) and one ovary. Most people aren't full hermaphrodites.
If any of that is incorrect, someone feel free to correct it. *takes teaching cap off*
( Quiz me! )
Oh, and... since this is promotion for the Antheas quiz... ;)
