I thought season 5 was when the show really started to plummet. There were certainly some things about it that were good but I couldn't get over the fact that Buffy would be all "Bitch trying to kill us. I'll kick your ass!" and Glory would be all "Mwahaha, I'm gonna push you" which was generally followed by [epic pushing maneuver] Buffy flying through a wall somewhere and promptly being ignored. Not to say the fighting aspects of the show are the highlight of it, because the I much prefer the snarky characters and would actually likely prefer if the fight scenes were just cut to the part where Buffy stakes something, but really, you build up this kind of serious feeling of fear, some kind of atmosphere, and then you get to watch a character get pushed five feet into the air, travel through several walls, and then walk it off shortly after. I mean no, that just makes everything feel silly. Like Glory in and of herself had a... nonstandard personality for a villain, but even that had its own creepy thing going. She was sort of the nihilist you could relate to! and then she'd push buffy through a truck and buffy would walk it off and everything would just look silly again. I think my issue was that it went from this well developed atmosphere (like had been done in previous seasons) to a sudden Godhand (http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=vAga2AjfZlg I don't remember how to attach links to words or I would have done it there) feel. (for clarification's sake, Godhand was a game made to parody overtheshoulder fighting games. The end credits are actually remarkably characteristic of the style of the game).
