SimonB liked his gift, and so I am filled with a childlike glee. No really, I'm super-happy giddy that he liked his gift. I'm also sad, because if he hadn't, I was so willing to take it off his hands...
The scenario: Bramalea City Centre. Gift hunting. Walk into Coles with my sister, knowing this is a bad idea because I have no idea what Simon likes to read outside of "Gibson!" and there is no new Gibson book right now. Stop on Snow Crash because Patrick hyped it a lot, but realize I still don't know the verdict on Shipping News and so maybe Patrick's judgement is not best, and besides, $30 is not my idea of a book-worthy price. So I'm browsing, slowly getting more dejected...
And then I see it. How could I miss it? Its bright red cover jumps out at me...
A Yuletide Universe.
'What the hell is a Christmas book doing in the SFF section?' I wonder. I flip through. The first short story is Gaiman's "Nicholas Was..." and it dawns on me. An SFF Christmas! Perfect! 'But maybe too seasonal?' I think. I flip to the next page.
"Cyber-Claus" by William Gibson.
And then I knew it was perfect.
