New Year's Eve meme

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] yendi.

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?
Visited Cleveland.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don't think I made any last year. I did some of my 101 in 1001, but I think I'm going to create a new list because the old one no longer suits.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
My friend Ali, although Vancouver isn't really "close". My cousin Lydia was hopeful, but she's not due until the 17th.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
My cat Zack, and (although not directly close to me) a friend's father.

5. Which countries did you visit?
The USA, twice (Cleveland and Cambridge, Mass.).

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?
Motivation.

7. Which date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 27, for Reasons, and October 27, for Related Reasons.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
...
Quitting the airport job, probably. (I know that doesn't sound like much of an achievement, probably because it isn't, but it took a hell of a lot of stress and effort to finally make it happen, so.)

9. What was your biggest failure?
I haven't actually finished a single book this year. :/ I'm halfway through two.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nothing really serious. A bad hangover on July 28, a couple of colds.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Pickle fixin's. People love those pickles.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Dr. Ben did pretty awesome things this year. Like becoming Dr. Ben.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Rent, followed closely by my car (if I include all expenses for it) and dining out (very bad habits there).

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Oof. The Cleveland trip, although due to illness we were unable to meet up with Ferrett and Gini! It was still an awesome trip, though, and really a short drive (maybe just in comparison to Cambridge). And of course seeing the Circlet people is a bright spot, always! <3

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?
I don't connect music to time, usually, but Imagine Dragons (specifically "Radioactive" and "Demons") are up there.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Happier, if only because this time last year we were dealing with the death of my grandmother.
ii. thinner or fatter? About the same.
iii. richer or poorer? About the same. Maybe a little richer, but I think I spent more because I made more.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Reading, exercise, "exercise".

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Feeling apathetic/unmotivated/sad.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Haha, well, I SPENT Christmas the way I always do - bouncing between three families and their celebrations, plus wrapping an ungodly number of gift baskets.

21. How will you be spending New Year’s Eve?
Patrick and I are going to Del Dente's for their NYE shindig. Should be fun.

22. Did you fall in love in 2013?
Lil' bit.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Game of Thrones, House of Cards.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Nope.

26. What was the best book you read?
See also: did not finish a book this year. :(

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Imagine Dragons, probably. A lot of stuff I like came out, though. (Patrick may not like it but I like the way indie rock is going right now.)

28. What did you want and get?
Massages, somewhat improved income.

29. What did you want and not get?
Motivation.

30. What was your favourite film that you saw for the first time this year?
Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Frozen.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I ran the first game of my Mage 1920s campaign, and I was 29. (The next day some of us went out for karaoke.)

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Not having the blowout in early October.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?
"Fashion concept"?
Geeky tees and jeans, or casual work.

34. What kept you sane?
...
Have you... met me?

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Chris Hemsworth, RDJ, and Jennifer Lawrence spring immediately to mind.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The Sotchi/Russian Olympics/state of the queers in Russia. :/

37. Who did you miss?
Ben, what with him moving to Germany and all.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Technically I didn't "meet" Ben this year, but we only started hanging out with him a lot in, like, February. Other than that, I don't think I met anyone new...

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.
I have a tendency to let things at work go way beyond what is healthy for me before giving up on them. I should really not do that, my time and effort are worth more than that.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Like the legend of the phoenix
All ends with beginnings...
