Augh, that sucks. That kept happening to me when I was trying to send scripts to actors through e-mail, and most replied that it came out a gobbletygook. I like to go with the "their fault" scenario, where they have attachments displayed inline text instead of, y'know, an attachment. As you, um, already said.
