Truck carrying flammable liquids rolled over halfway through my route to work today (not near me, just on the route), so we had to make a detour. Wound up being 15 minutes late to work. Ah well, at least I wasn't close by when it happened - apparently drivers that were couldn't leave the area.

Gave me a little extra time to read Tigana, so that was good. I'm a little more than halfway through - 53% or so, to be exact. I don't know if I should give thoughts so far or wait until the story finishes.

I gotta say, though, I'm liking Dianora. She's like this weird blend of Danielle and Az in my head. (Man, I really am lame.)

Edit: I realize that there's a certain amount of stupidity/early-morning-itis that goes into saying "53% or so, to be exact." Go me.

A book review!

Tigana, Guy Gavriel Kay

Thoughts about Tigana )

Overall, while I enjoyed the book, I felt limited in enjoyment because of things that kept jumping out at me, as detailed above. If the men had been more... accessible, and the women more useful, I think a lot of my problems would have eased. As it is, if I read it again, it will most likely only be the Dianora and Brandin sections.

However, I quite liked this quote, so I am going to put it here:

It was astonishing in a way, but that course [...] - the life he'd woken to this morning - seemed almost inconcievable to him now, as if he'd already crossed to the other side of some tremendous divide. Devin wondered how often men did what they did, made the choices of their lives, for reasons that were clean and uncomplicated and easily understood as they were happening. (p.133)

Dad just took Goldie to be put down. She couldn't walk any more, really, was too weak to stand properly, and her bladder has been going.

My poor little kitty. I hope she knew we loved her.
