So Patrick was talking to me about the latest episode of Game of Thrones, and made an extremely interesting observation:

Littlefinger's Instruction of the Whores )

And with a little translation...

Littlefinger's Real Speech )

I like women in a sexy way as much as the next bisexual-or-lesbian person.

This was totally not on, though, OK?

Yours truly,

Meme questions from Serena:

1. If you had to put a price on it, would you value emotional over physical connections or vice versa?

Hmmm, that's actually really difficult. Just in general, or in sexual relationships? I'd probably say emotional, but it'd be a difference of like fifty cents ;)

2. What is more important to you: working in the industry you love, or working a job you love in an industry you relatively dislike?

Probably the latter - I'd rather enjoy what I'm immediately doing rather than enjoy that I am nebulously contributing to a particular industry.

3. What's better: kitties or people?!

Kitties! Zack slept on my legs all night and at one point came up next to me, snuggled into my armpit, and put his front leg across my chest (like he was hugging me). SO CUTE.

4. Sugarrrrrr!!!! : true or false, and why?

Always true, because I cannot lives without it, precioussss.

5. With TV series: what criteria do you use to determine what is desirable about the show, and would you like a show if it were hateable (or simply because you dislike it or qualities about it?) ...sorry two questions, i know...

*lol* That's really complicated. I'm not sure I have set criteria for shows...
Ummm, generally, if they're comedies, I like them quirky or offbeat in some way.

(My Name is Earl, Arrested Development, Pushing Daisies, Wonderfalls)

...looking at that list, apparently narration helps too. *lol*

If they're dramas or dramedies, I'm more likely to like them off the bat. I tend to prefer them with something supernatural or historical (or futuristic!) in them. Hot actors help. A sly, dark sense of humor is usually necessary. Joss Whedon is like a +3 to anything I watch on a scale of 1-10 (so even the worst show in the world, done by him, is a 4. :P)

I like complicated relationships. Not necessarily soap opera styles, but relationships that aren't easy.

(Firefly, The Tudors, Dead Like Me, Blood Ties)

Deb/Lundy... DUDE WOW.

(I keep getting these D'or/Az analogues...!)

Spoilers and best couple EVAR ahoy! )

Okay, Heroes, you took my love back. I'll never doubt you again!

My DVDs of the minute shorts do not play. :( I can't figure out why; all the info seems to be there, and it's giving me the last frame of picture if I hit play, but... nada.

I really really want these guys :(

There are a lot of Heroes-related official websites, including the conspiracy blog, Vote Petrelli, and Mohinder/Chandra Suresh's website.

But by far the funniest entry on Mohinder's wiki is this:

Heroes interview. D.L., Nathan, and Parkman in a bed together. Fuckin' hilarious.

It gets kind of boring in the middle if you have no idea who his wife is (I correctly guessed from clues that she is one of the Dixie Chicks, namely Natalie Maines) - they spend an inordinate amount of time talking about her win at the Grammys - but then sweeps back into total hilarity for the end. Highly recommended ;)

AND, because I don't want to post a bajillion times in rapid succession (oops), here's my latest two books:

11. Time Management for the Creative Person, Lee Silber

I gotta say... the only difference I see between this book and most time management/goal-setting books I've read is that Lee suggests using colorful items, pictures, and other visual stimuli to help you want to do things. He also suggests a lot of delegation, and being OK with not getting everything done (and leaving the little stuff until last, generally). The book seems to start from the base assumption that the reader is overwhelmed with what they are doing and can't find time to be creative, rather than feeling unable to use that time effectively. The problems with time management that I commonly have - lack of energy (and a lack of will to put out crap to get to the good stuff) only gets a few brief nods, and generally have lines like "do your most important stuff at high-energy times" (I don't have those) and "don't be a perfectionist" (OK... how?) and "don't be negative" (again, how?).

It might work for someone who is overburdened. For me, it didn't address the problem at all.

12. How To Behave: A Guide to Modern Manners for the Socially Challenged, Caroline Tiger

I'm pretty sure the second half of each piece of advice given is tongue-in-cheek. If not, Americans are WAY more pushy than Canadians! Even reading the "what to do about aggressive offenses against manners" made me cringe. Impoliteness as a means to battle impoliteness? Yick.

Still, amusing.

Thank you for the books, Kenny! I'll start working on the Canadian films one now. :D

Currently reading: Queer Fear II (queer horror stories - thank you Serena! :D), still trying to plow through Kathy Acker (is it bad that she's making more AND less sense as I go on?), Dresden Files 2, Canadian Dreams

Russell Peters, as I mentioned, was at Humber last week for Distinguished Artists.

Here's his backstage "talk" about Michael Richards.

I hope they're going to put up his shout-out, 'cause it cracks me the fuck up. But this is pretty good too.

New show idea: so we take Russell Peters...

and, uh, that's about it.

(OK, that one's for people in my class. ;)

Alex: Bah. What I really want to pitch is Heroes.
Alex: Except with university students.
Alex: Because Tim Krieg?
Alex: Or... well... Pat's idea.
HasturHasturHastur: Heh, look for something a bit less known if you're going to rip something off.
Alex: shh.
Alex: Nothing is unknown to this class.
Alex: Trust me.
Alex: SOMEONE knows it.
HasturHasturHastur: Hmm... Gimmie a sec.
Alex: I once had an idea about the various gods as teens.
Alex: But Clone High kind of took that from me, too.
Alex: Bastards.
HasturHasturHastur: Not to mention "Class of the Titans".
Alex: I've never even heard of it.
Alex: God damnit!
HasturHasturHastur: Ran one season on Teletoon, greek gods reborn as teenagers to reclaim their lost power from a reborn Kronos.
Alex: Oh.
Alex: No, not so much like that.
Alex: That's more... young Hercules.
Alex: although apparently THAT was a series on its own.
Alex: *sigh*
Alex: I meant, like... teenage Jesus, Krishna, and Athena walk into a cafeteria...
HasturHasturHastur: Oh. Wasn't there a comic about that?
Alex: probably.
Alex: So I'm writing this show about university students... one is in a Christian death rock band, one's a strung out druggie...
Alex: they fight crime?
HasturHasturHastur: With rock?
Alex: and SCIENCE!
Alex: I call it Rock et Science
HasturHasturHastur: Sounds good, though strangely familiar...

There's more! )

Alex: that's right.
Alex: All my show ideas are going to be kinky + show already on TV
Alex: Kinky Heroes!
HasturHasturHastur: Kinky House!
Alex: Fangirls all over the world are saying, "it isn't already?"

No, waitress, you can't die! How will the world have Hiro/you fic if you die?

Oh wait. Time stops.

...But don't die anyway! I like you!

It's official. This show is going to be cancelled because I LOVE IT SO FUCKING MUCH.

Other edit:
Okay, so I cried.

In other news about contemporary/urban fantasy novels being made into TV series in Toronto, The Dresden Files is being made.

I think if I can't intern on Blood Ties (working up the nerve to call about it), I'll try for there.

Dear Studio 60,

You have a giant head. It started up in the rafters. When it descended, it looked awfully like John Goodman, and spoke with a voice that pronounces that This is The Plot, and How it is To Be. (The caps are quite important.)

That's a fancy little piece of machinery, yes it is. I'm surprised you could afford it, but then, I suppose Aaron Sorkin is allowed to write his own paycheque.

With the utmost love,

Edit: P.S. I just hurled in my mouth a little.

Someone write me Heroes femslash. Niki/Tina. I will so love you forever.

If I can't have that, I'll take some Hiro/Ando boyslash. Or Simone and Peter, if you like het. If you like het-plus, feel free to add Issac or Nathan in as you see fit.

Dear god that entire cast is just yummy.

So I was telling Sae and Willow about the differences between the aired pilot and the critic viewed pilot of Heroes. And I figured I'd put them up here for those that wanted to know also!

These were: )

But obviously, they changed that...

Man, I fucking love Heroes.

Oh, and, because I don't think I officially mentioned it:

Mom came home Tuesday. She gets her stitches out tomorrow. She still has a pretty bad cough, and can't talk much above a whisper (though it's getting better), but she is happily home. Still on a low-fat diet, but she was on one of those ANYWAY, so...

I don't know when her radiation therapy starts.

And that's what's going on over at my house.

As for me, I have a cold. (Sucks.) But I also have CSI season 2! (Yay!) Grissom probably knows the cure for the common cold.
